St Matthews Church, April 27th

Brief Notes

– David Winter (chair) introduced the meeting

– Pauline Allen (Treasurer) briefed the meeting on the accounts which were adopted

– Joel Baillie-Lane (Secretary) gave a brief report on the last years activity, and the committee was re-elected, with the addition of Pat Harrad, and the standing down of Martin Smith (High Kingsdown rep)

There followed a general discussion on the UHB proposal to build a Multi Storey Car Park at the bottom of Marlborough Hill. There was widespread concern at the general prospect, with specific points being : congestion, aesthetics, entry systems (barcodes proposed), who might use it (its supposed to be visitors and patients only), loss of Eugene St flats and the rehousing of those who have lost their homes etc … most points which KCG had already addressed in Pre App responses

There was however concern that (infirm or elderly) patients and visitors did find it very difficult to park close to the hospital, and some carers also responded that even dropping off and collecting people was difficult. Questions were asked about alternative means of assisting visitors and patients – a better shuttle service etc

My (personal) take from the meeting was that the wider community recognised the problem, but felt that the proposed MSCP was not the solution

Mark Horton then gave an excellent and informative talk on Bristol and the Slave Trade

My thanks to everyone who helped set up the evening, run the bar and cleared the chairs and made it a fun evening
