The Christmas Steps Arts Quarter will be officially opened by The Lord Mayor of Bristol on Saturday 25th October 2008. This unique district embraces the streets around Christmas Steps, including Colston Street, Upper Maudlin Street, Lower Park Row, Perry Road and St Michael’s Hill and comprises some one hundred or so businesses dedicated towards the arts.
These include art galleries, theatres (including Colston Hall), glassmakers, potteries, furniture restorers, antique shops, musical instrument makers and shops, a bow maker, a handmade shoe shop, dressmakers, costumiers, booksellers, and artists’ studios and much more. The Christmas Steps Arts Quarter, which is situated in an historic and commercially diverse part of Bristol, will be throwing open its doors for the public to not only explore its shops and galleries but to also meet its artists, potters, craftsmen, designers and musicians. Throughout the day there will be live performances by local musicians, demonstrations by artists and sculptors, poetry readings, an outdoor art market, competitions, activities for children and adults as well as a chance to experience the food and refreshments from our restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs.
