Kingsdown Homegrown Festival – Saturday September 22nd

Kingsdown Homegrown – “a festival to celebrate our community” is on Saturday 22ndSeptembeCentred around St Matthews’ Church and it’s grounds, this is an event in which the whole neighbourhood can join in – residents, businesses, friends and family, young and old. Here is an opportunity to enjoy local Homegrown musical talent and share local passions and interests in the arts, crafts and cooking and gardening.
And…… get to meet and talk to your neighbours.

Starting off with a Fancy Dress Parade at 2pm and also a Mad Hat Parade (for all ages) which will be led by a very jolly and very pink carnival band – “The Ambling Band”

MUSIC music MUSIC of all kinds and all day long will give the whole event a Party atmosphere. Let us know if you would like to play! Contact Helen on 9422922

There will be activities and fun for all ages. For the very little people we have many opportunities to be creative with Face Painting and a chance to Decorate A Fairy Cake or Toy Making. For those older residents there will be plenty of Side Shows to try your skills at throwing and racing and guessing. Among the various shows you could try your luck on the Human Fruit Machine or test the Power of Your Pedalling, or your Biking Skills – or join in a communal Art Event or DJ and more…..

Saturday 2pm – 6pm

Inside St Matthews Church Hall will be a display of local produce and crafts. So let your imaginations run wild and your competitive spirit engage and send in your entries for such catagories as:-

The Gardening Display of

  • The best basket or container of Homegrown Produce.
  • The best container of herbs for your doorstep.
  • The tallest sunflower.
  • The best bowl of Homegrown Tomatoes
  • Eight of the most perfect Homegrown Beans.
  • Best pumpkin or squash
  • A glorious bunch of garden flowers

Or The Craft Section of

  • The cosiest tea cosy or baby’s hat.
  • The most imaginative egg cosy.
  • The best model made of recycled materials.
  • The best photograph of Kingsdown
  • The most ugly Vegetable Monster,
  • The most perfect minature garden.

Or The Cookery Display of

  • The most fantastic Celebration cake
  • The perfect Victoria Sponge cake
  • The best use of chocolate
  • The most wholesome loaf of bread
  • The best use of surplus produce
  • Best jar of jam
  • Best jar of chutney or pickles

Saturday 8pm – 11pm – PARTY!

In St Matthews Church Hall. An evening event for all ages with yet more music, dancing and delicious food. Tickets will be sold door to door in September. Price £5 adult & £3 under 11’s

Further displays of Homegrown Talent and Interests will be enjoyed at the various Stalls. Come shopping and Sample exotic teas or wine. Try out Indian or traditional English fare and order up your very Local Veg Box. Treat yourselves to gorgeous Homemade toys, T-shirts and other crafts.

There will be tables to rent for those Cupboard Clear-Outs. So get sorting. £10 per trestle. Share one with a friend. Also if you have surplus plants and flowers, please pot them up for the Plant Stall or make extra cakes for the Cake Stall

The Very Posh Tea Gardens
There will be many kinds of refreshments available including a corner to sit down and have a very
elegant and very tasty, homemade ‘Proper English Afternoon Tea.’

A percentage of any surplus money made from the day will be divided up between charities which supply extra help to parts of the world which suffer from the effects of Global Warming – to bolster their horticulture and help their community.
